Employment law specialists at North West law firm SAS Daniels LLP have signed-up their 20th education client, as the trend for switching to academy status continues to give schools greater choice in the legal market.
Flixton Girls High School in Trafford has become the latest institution to sign-up to the firm’s fixed-fee employment law service, along with Byrchall School in Wigan, Reddish Vale Technology College in Stockport and Leftwich County High in Northwich.
The Stockport-based firm says the service is proving popular with schools because the switch to academy status means they have greater freedom to choose where to spend money on outsourced services rather than automatically taking local authority employment and HR protection.
Head of Employment Law and HR at SAS Daniels, said: “Legal issues around employees come up as much in schools as they do in any other organisation. Academies have much more autonomy over their budgets and with that comes responsibility to obtain the highest levels of advice in order to guard against liabilities.
“More and more schools are thinking of themselves in business terms and becoming a lot more savvy about procuring services which best suit their needs. Our fixed-fee service is proving popular because having that additional level of support on hand and knowing where to turn to for advice is absolutely essential.”
The firm offers schools unlimited employment law advice and onsite HR support covering individual employment law issues such as grievances and disciplinary procedures, as well as personal representation at tribunals.
In addition to schools, more than 200 businesses and organisations have signed-up to the services, known as SAS Protect and HR Solutions.”
Head of Employment Law and HR continued: “It’s another sign of the evolving legal market that fixed fees are becoming a more popular option for certain clients in certain areas of law. We’ve seen a 36% growth in take up of SAS protect over the last 12 months and are anticipating the service to remain popular.”
SAS Daniels has also recently attracted its first two primary schools to the HR and employment services – Elleray Park School in Wallasey and Church Drive Primary in Port Sunlight.
