STEP introduces new will writing code

Year Published: 2014

The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is an international organisation recognised across the world as a leading organisation of professionals who deal in all aspects of trust and estate legal work.

Following on from the government’s decision last year not to regulate will writing services in England and Wales, STEP have developed their own code which lays out a series of ethical principles that openly demonstrates the standard of transparency and service that a client can expect from a STEP member who is preparing their will. The STEP code for will preparation in England and Wales will take effect from April 2014 and bolsters the existing STEP code of professional conduct, which applies to all STEP members in England and Wales.

At SAS Daniels, every member of our Wills and Wealth Planning team is a qualified member of STEP and we welcome the introduction of the code. To quote STEP President Geoffrey Schindler, “It will demonstrate that we are of a gold standard when it comes to preparing wills for individual clients”. The introduction of the code will help clients to identify those who are truly expert in their field and who follow strict ethical guidelines.

A will is arguably one of the most important documents that you will ever produce, it’s important that you are confident that it is produced to the highest standard, by professionals who follow an ethical code.

You can read the code here.
