Leading North West law firm, SAS Daniels LLP, has billed over £8.6m in the financial year ending April 2016, showing a 12% increase over the previous financial year. The results confirm SAS Daniels’ continued impressive organic growth strategy that has seen turnover increase by almost 75% in the past five years.
The firm’s growth strategy focuses on building leading practice groups out of the firm’s four offices in Stockport, Macclesfield, Chester and Congleton.
Record billings were achieved by each of the Corporate, Employment Law and HR, Commercial Property and Dispute Resolution teams, in addition to strong performances from the Personal Law teams. The firm has been growing rapidly every year and is forecasted to increase by a further 10% in the current financial year.
Commenting on the firm’s success, Jeremy Orrell, Head of the Corporate team and Finance Partner at SAS Daniels, says: “We are delighted that we’ve maintained such a high level of growth. It has been another busy year for the firm with unprecedented demand from both new and existing clients for our services. During the year we have taken on 31 members of staff and now have almost 140 employees. We have also added two new partners to the firm with Roger Allsup (construction) and Neil Powell (property) and have extended our expertise and services into corporate and personal insolvency and construction.”
SAS Daniels’ Residential Property team has increased its billings by more than 28% whilst the Commercial Property team’s billings have increased by 9.9%. In addition to a number of new client wins in the development sector, the team has also acted for landowners on five separate residential development sites with a value of £28million. A total of eight legal experts have been recruited across the two teams during the year to service that demand.
The firm’s Corporate team has also experienced strong growth resulting in an increase in billing of 90% over the past five years. It completed a record 30 deals during the year including the acquisition of the Sheriff’s Office by High Court Enforcement Group, sale of Oakfield’s Holiday Park, a number of acquisitions for Premier Care, a health and social care provider and the sale of The Bridge Hotel, Prestbury. Orrell adds, “At times the deal flow has been almost manic as our strong relationships with clients and other professionals has resulted in an unprecedented number of instructions. In order to meet the demand we recruited former Birchall Blackburn’s Head of Corporate, Paul Tyrer. The pipeline remains strong and we are looking forward to another successful year.”
The Employment Law and HR team have been active in growing its service offerings to both the commercial and education markets, which has resulted in a 4.8% growth in billings. This year saw the launch of Education 360 – a legal, HR advisory service, along with administration service for schools. It builds on the success of the firm’s existing SAS Protect & HR Solutions on site service that is already in use by 73 schools across the NW. The team has also been active in providing advice to its 180 commercial clients on a range of employment matters including how to deal with the National Living Wage that came into effect in April.
The Dispute Resolution team has seen a 15% growth in billing since 2015. This builds on the growth of the practice area over the past four years, which has seen a 235% growth in billings.
Orrell concludes, “The growth across all four of our offices and practice areas has been incredibly satisfying. It’s testimony to our focus on continuing to develop our teams, skills and expertise. But it also reflects the strength of our relationships with clients, and how they appreciate and welcome our ‘No Ordinary Law Firm’ approach to service delivery.”
