Our Estate Administration & Probate team acted as executors with a lay executor for a generous patron who lived in the Chester area, who loved his cats and wanted to be cremated with the remains of his former feline companions.
He didn’t have any close family and we were involved in arranging his funeral in accordance with his wishes, rehoming his sole surviving cat and then sorting out his business and personal effects which were sold.
He left his estate which also included a number of rented shops to a range of charities.
The charities included some which support cancer research as well as local charities including an animal sanctuary involved in rehoming abandoned dogs and cats. Not only were the trustees able to ensure that the monies benefited causes that were important to the testator during his lifetime, but they were also able to specify the exact purposes or specific projects to which the monies should be applied and thus ensure that some could be used in a way which has provided a lasting memorial to the benefactor and his philanthropy.
