You may have seen recently that Bryan Ferry has married for the second time – to a much younger lady some 36 years his junior. Lucky man, you may say?
However, whilst Mr Ferry has a history of successful relationships with younger partners (another of his partners was 35 years younger), many others do not. It is well known that the percentage of marriages breaking down where there is a substantial age gap is higher than the national average and therefore the happy couple will need a good dose of luck.
It is also notable that they married abroad – which is increasingly common. You will recall that Mr Ferry famously dated Jerry Hall before she left him for Mick Jagger. That marriage ended in divorce, with Mick Jagger actually claiming that the marriage, which took place in Bali, was never valid. On application to the High Court in London, they agreed and the marriage was subsequently annulled.
If you do marry abroad it is vital that you comply with all formalities required by the country and much preparation needs to be undertaken before setting off. If you do not, it could be a costly mistake as the wedding may not take place at all – or be invalid.
