Following the recent election, Nicky Morgan (Education Secretary) has wasted no time in confirming that the new government will continue to expand the academy conversion programme in schools.
As a result, there will be new legislation introduced to speed up intervention in failing schools and secondly to intervene in ‘coasting’ schools.
Before the election, one thing expected by schools in the event of a Conservative government was that academy conversion is likely to be the result for schools which are unable to show the ability to improve or those that have been graded by Ofsted and require improvements.
The Education Secretary has also announced that she will be looking to introduce powers to overrule objections from councils and trade unions.
