Meet the Team : Helen Gowin

Helen Gowin

I am Partner and Head of the Estate Administration & Probate team. I deal with executors and trustees on high value estates including estates with a foreign element, business and agricultural assets. I act for a wide variety of personal representatives and beneficiaries of estates who need to sort out the affairs of someone who has died often leaving complex issues, property overseas and where inheritance tax is payable due to the size and nature of the estate. Within my work I also deal with estates for charities, intestacy cases when someone dies without a valid Will and help families trace beneficiaries, sometimes all around the world.

I advise clients across Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Staffordshire from our offices in Congleton, Macclesfield, Stockport and Chester.

Within my career, I qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives in 2006. I am also a member of the Law Society’s Private Client Section and a member of the Society of Trust and Estates Practitioners (STEP). Throughout my work with STEP I have successfully completed the STEP Advanced Certificate in International Succession and Probate.

As part of my role at SAS Daniels I am also the Head of our Congleton office.

What people say about me:

"Thank you for all your help with the inheritance tax bills over the past few years. From start to end of the process you have made the whole thing very clear and easy to understand. Having you as point of contact has taken so much of the sting and hassle out of the yearly bills." (Julian Eardley)

"Now that my mother’s estate has been finalised I would like to thank you so much for all the work you have done. You made it so much easier for me to understand the complexities and I appreciate very much that there were no death duties to pay, undoubtedly due to your skill and understanding of the law." (David Hartshorn)

Helen is described as "Very friendly and efficient". (Legal 500, 2018)

Why I'm no ordinary professional:

Some clients find it difficult to handle the estate of someone they were close to and value estate matters being dealt with sensitively and professionally. I ensure that my clients receive practical support at a difficult time when they're dealing with bereavement. I listen to their concerns and show that we care and want to help them through the estate administration process.

I do not just deal with the paperwork following a death but can assist with the funeral arrangements, the clearance and disposal of the deceased’s effects and can help to re-home their pets. I also guide executors and beneficiaries with their own estate planning and will ensure that the estate administration process runs smoothly from the death until the estate is fully completed.
