Meet Claire
Claire Porter is a partner in our family law team and has extensive experience in dealing with divorce and finance matters, children matters and putting in place agreements to protect individual wealth.
Claire has a broad geographical practice. Her clients are based nationally and internationally and include company directors and professionals from all industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, private service, construction, education, public service, health and maritime and their spouses.

She has considerable expertise when dealing with issues relating to the breakdown of a relationship and has a particular aptitude for resolving financial settlements often featuring property, business interests, pensions, overseas assets, inherited wealth and trusts.

Claire provides support and guidance for parents and other family members involved in negotiating children’s living arrangements and financial provision for children at all court levels. She has extensive experience in cases involving allegations of harm, parental alienation and has worked alongside family psychologists and other experts to ensure that children’s needs are put first.

Claire also helps couples who are planning to live together, marry or enter into a civil partnership by putting in place cohabitation agreements, and pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, to protect independent assets and non-matrimonial wealth.
Whilst Claire has extensive litigation experience in court, she will seek to achieve an out of court settlement if at all possible to secure the best outcome for everyone involved.

Claire is independently recommended by prestigious legal directories Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners UK. Professionals who have worked with Claire say that she is strategic, results-focused and praised for her creative, practical, no-nonsense advice and guidance.

Her clients describe her as empathetic, efficient and dedicated to securing the best possible outcome for them and their family.

Recent case examples

Recent examples of how Claire’s clients have benefited from her advice and guidance:

  • Successfully challenging a joint experts valuation, on behalf of a Husband, who had over-valued his business interests by £1.13m thereby avoiding the need to pay a share of this sum to his ex-Wife as a lump sum payment on divorce.
  • Successfully persuading the court, at a contested final hearing, to order a change to the living arrangements of a child, aged 11, who had expressed a wish to move to live with his Father in Chester permanently in place of living with his Mother in Mid-Wales. This meant the child would enjoy the remainder of his childhood living with his Father, step-family and attending a school in Chester which was better able to support his future education and development into adulthood.
  • Putting in place a pre-nuptial agreement for a premiership footballer to protect pre-marital wealth and secure joint interests with his fiancée.
  • Putting in place a separation agreement for a media CEO which provided the couple and their child with a clear framework for financial and property arrangements following their decision to separate, reducing the potential for disputes to occur in the future.

What people say about me

‘I cannot recommend and thank Claire Porter highly enough. She is such an asset to SAS Daniels and her clients. She is extremely professional, efficient, reliable, suitably challenging, level headed and clear in her representation, advice and guidance. She balances this perfectly with her friendly, warm, caring and thoughtful approach. This is so important when dealing with such emotive issues during the most difficult days of your life, at your most vulnerable.  Claire is the most amazing support and source of strength’

“First class, professional legal expertise delivered in a carrying, sympathetic manner.  Claire Porter was an absolute star throughout a long, unpleasant, complex, international family law high court case.  Forever grateful to Claire and her team for their high standards”

“Claire Porter has been fantastic.  I really valued her supportive approach, honesty, straight and robust legal advice, responsiveness, reliability and care during a difficult time”

May I take this opportunity to thank you for your extremely professional, precise and efficient advice and support over the last number of months. You’ve been hugely dependable during a really unpleasant, turbulent and unexpected period in my life so, genuinely, thank you.’

‘I have complete satisfaction with the manner in which you handled the divorce of my daughter. The advice and guidance provided throughout this whole acrimonious affair by Claire Porter was first class, excellent! My sincere thanks to all of the team’

‘I cannot praise your support and professionalism highly enough. At the most upsetting and stressful time in my life you have been my strength to get me through my divorce. Every issue you discussed with me you delivered on. I built complete trust in you. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me. Both you in the family team and Sara who dealt with my house purchase are a credit to the company and I would certainly recommend you to others.’

‘I just wanted to thank you for your knowledge, experience and expertise during the round table meeting on Friday. For the largest part, it seemed that we were much too far apart to reach any form of agreement. To turn it around in the end and find an agreeable way forward appeared almost impossible. I’m very pleased with the outcome, so thank you once again.’
